Consequences of proceeding with surgery after resuscitation from intra-operative anaphylaxis
Anaesthesia Nov 10, 2017
Sadleir PHM, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate if recovery outcomes are adversely affected by proceeding with the planned surgery after resuscitation from intra-operative anaphylaxis. As per the findings, in grade 1, 2 and 3 immediate hypersensitivity, proceeding with the planned surgery was not related to poorer outcomes once initial resuscitation has been achieved and if resuscitative efforts can be re-instituted if needed. Irrespective of proceeding with or abandoning surgery, a significant incidence of complications, attributable to acute hypersensitivity, was reported after grade 3 reactions. In grade 4 immediate hypersensitivity, surgery was frequently abandoned and was found to be related to a high rate of complications.
