Consanguinity increases the risk for aggressive periodontitis
Journal of Periodontal Research Jul 01, 2018
CaliSir M - Author compared the genetic features of aggressive periodontitis (AgP) in individuals with and without history of consanguineous marriages. Results demonstrated the segregation of AgP on autosomal chromosomes and the likelihood of developing this disease increased by consanguineous marriage. Moreover, it was noted that the mode of transmission of the disease fitted better to the autosomal recessive inheritance pattern. Findings suggested a significant difference in the gingival index, bleeding on probing, suppuration, probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level scores between the affected and unaffected groups for both genders, which were consistent with the diagnosis of AgP.
