Confirmatory tests for the diagnosis of primary aldosteronism: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Clinical Endocrinology Feb 12, 2019
Wu S, et al. - The Endocrine Society's clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis of primary aldosteronism (PA) recommend saline infusion test (SIT), captopril challenge test (CCT), fludrocortisone suppression test (FST) and oral sodium loading test (SLT), researchers reviewed the available comparative data and assessed the diagnostic accuracy of these four tests. They searched for relevant studies published between January 1980 and January 2018 by PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Library. The results of this systematic review and meta-analysis indicated that CCT and SIT were highly accurate and comparable in diagnosing PA. They suggested that CCT can be a more viable alternative because it is safe and much easier to carry out.
