Conduction disorders and impact on survival after sutureless aortic valve replacement compared to conventional stented bioprostheses

European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Dec 20, 2018

Lam KY, et al. - Researchers compared complications, including new-onset left bundle branch block (LBBB) and permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation, after sutureless aortic valve replacement (sAVR) with stented bioprostheses, as well as their influence on postoperative survival in a total of 987 patients, consisting of 132 sAVR and 855 conventional AVR (cAVR) patients. These subjects had isolated surgical AVR or concomitant AVR with coronary artery bypass surgery between January 2010 and July 2017. According to the findings, an increased risk of new-onset LBBB and PPM requirement was observed in relation to sAVR vs cAVR. In this population, no impact of postoperative conduction disorders on the mid-term survival was evident.
