Conditions and factors associated with spontaneous coronary artery dissection (from a national population-based cohort study)
American Journal of Cardiology Nov 02, 2018
Krittanawong C, et al. - Given that spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) carries a heterogeneous pathophysiology, researchers used data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) from January 1, 2004 to September 31, 2015 to assess heterogeneous phenotypes of SCAD in the US. They performed a population level investigation into the frequency of associated conditions and factors of SCAD, including systemic arteriopathies and inflammatory diseases, as well as environmental causes, genetics, or stressors. With mean age 63.1 ± 13.2 years, a total of 66,360 patients diagnosed with SCAD were included, of whom 44.2% were women. As per observations, no evident concomitant arteriopathy, inflammatory disorder, or risk factor was found in the majority of SCAD cases.
