Conditional survival analysis of metastatic colorectal cancer patients living ≥24 months: A single institutional study
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Jun 03, 2019
Ali ND, et al. - Due to improvements in chemotherapy and surgery, increased survival in metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) has been reported, therefore, researchers intended to provide refined prognostic information so that a more accurate survival prediction can be achieved as patients survive for any given length of time to ultimately assist in treatment decisions by multidisciplinary cancer management teams. For this purpose, they performed this single-center retrospective analysis including a total of 155 patients treated for metastatic CRC (unresectable and resectable) who survived >24 months. They reported an excellent prognosis in CRC patients who survived 24 months with metastatic colorectal cancer. In addition, surgery was suggested as a possibly suitable management strategy for a subset of patients initially deemed unresectable.
