Concurrent use of opioids and benzodiazepines or non-benzodiazepines sedative hypnotics among cancer patients referred to outpatient palliative care clinic of a comprehensive cancer care center (S762)
Journal of Pain and Symptom Management Feb 15, 2018
Haider A, et al. - Researchers aim at discussing the risk involved in prescribing concurrent use of opioids and benzodiazepines. They also discuss the palliative care role in simplifying poly-pharmacy. Among patients seen at supportive care clinic of a comprehensive cancer center, a decline in the concurrent use of opioids and benzodiazepines (BZD) or non-benzodiazepines sedative hypnotics (S/H) has been observed in recent years. Concurrent use group received a higher MEDD. Half of the patients successfully discontinued BZD or S/H after one supportive care consult.
