Concurrent risk-reduction surgery in patients with increased lifetime risk for breast and ovarian cancer: An analysis of the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) database
Breast Cancer Research and Treatment Jul 20, 2018
Elmi M, et al. - In this retrospective cohort analysis, researchers compared postoperative morbidity between patients undergoing risk-reduction mastectomy (RRM) alone vs patients undergoing RRM with concurrent bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) by using the American College of Surgeon’s National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) 2007–2016 datasets. Findings revealed that relative to RRM without BSO, RRM with concurrent BSO was not related to significant additional morbidity and hence, this approach may be reserved for certain patients at risk for both breast and ovarian cancer.
