Concurrent inflammatory myopathy and myasthenia gravis with or without thymic pathology: A case series and literature review
Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism Jun 01, 2018
Huang K, et al. - Given that the management of myasthenia gravis (MG) and inflammatory myositis (IM) differs, experts evaluate the patients for co-existing MG and IM to recognize the concomitant presentation. Regarding MG-IM overlap with or without thymic pathology, this is one of the largest case series. Findings suggest that the simultaneous occurrence of the 2 disease entities or presentation of 1 before another is possible. A good response of most of the patients towards steroid, acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, and immunosuppressive agents is seen. In very refractory cases, the effectiveness of rituximab is noted, which has not been reported for the treatment of this condition before.
