Concurrent change in quadriceps strength and physical function over 5 years in The Multicenter Osteoarthritis Study
Arthritis Care & Research Sep 20, 2018
Bacon KL, et al. - Researchers assessed the concurrent change in strength and physical function of quadriceps weakness, associated with functional limitations, in study participants with knee osteoarthritis (OA) over 5 years. They found that strength was increased in 22% of men and 30% of women by at least 15% at 5 years. Results demonstrated an association of modest improvement in quadriceps strength with improved chair stand performance in women, but not in men. With an increase in strength, most functions did not improve and required targeted interventions for their functional status improvement.
