Concordance of biopsy and prostatectomy diagnosis of intraductal and cribriform carcinoma in a prospectively collected dataset
Histopathology Sep 03, 2018
Masoomian M, et al. - Given that, in both prostate biopsies and surgical specimens, intraductal and cribriform carcinoma of the prostate are recognized more and more as independent predictors of poor outcome, researchers analyzed the concordance of biopsy and prostatectomy diagnosis for these two sub-pathologies, in association with pathological stage. Findings revealed that prevalence of the combination of intraductal and cribriform carcinoma was 26.9% in biopsies and 51.8% in prostatectomy specimens. Intraductal and cribriform carcinoma at biopsy was strongly related to advanced stage at radical prostatectomy, despite low sensitivity. Efforts should be undertaken to improve the sensitivity of biopsy diagnosis for intraductal and cribriform carcinoma since a false negative biopsy diagnosis was equally correlated with the advanced pathological stage.
