Concomitant vascular and neurodegenerative pathologies double the risk of dementia

Azarpazhooh MR, et al. - In this study, the researchers evaluated the proportion of dementia explained by potentially preventable vascular lesions. Compared with patients with only Alzheimer-type lesions, patients with mixed pathologies had nearly twice the incremental risk of dementia. Many cases of dementia, therefore, could be prevented or delayed by targeting the vascular component.
