Concomitant external and internal hemorrhage: Challenges to managing patients with open pelvic fracture
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Feb 23, 2018
Fu CY, et al. - The characteristics of patients with open pelvic fractures and strategies for managing such patients were investigated. When managing patients with open pelvic fractures, active external hemorrhaging was initially controlled. However, for definitive hemorrhage control, transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) was also required in most patients. On account of the high probability of concomitant internal and external hemorrhage, researchers recommended considering early TAE. Findings also highlighted the significance of close observation and further infection control following the hemostatic procedure.
