Comprehensive longitudinal surveillance of the IgG autoantibody repertoire in established systemic lupus erythematosus
Arthritis & Rheumatology Mar 28, 2019
Vordenbaumen S, et al. - Over a period of 6 years, 69 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) cases vs 45 controls were studied to evaluate the role of epitope spreading in established SLE. Investigators observed an incline in the total number of autoantibodies, mean fluorescence intensity (MFI), and the number of autoantibodies in epitope fine mapping in SLE cases vs controls. They noted stability in the total number of antibodies to distinct autoantigens over time, whereas a decrease in the mean MFI over time was also reported in SLE. A higher time-averaged MFIs of 22 individual autoantibodies (including double-stranded DNA [dsDNA])was recorded, after Bonferroni correction, in SLE. They found an association of MFIs of dsDNA and histone cluster 2 H3c with scores on the Systemic Lupus Activity Measure.
