Comprehensive lipid and metabolite profiling of children with and without familial hypercholesterolemia: A cross-sectional study
Atherosclerosis Sep 28, 2017
Christensen JJ, et al. - This study characterized lipid-related and metabolic changes associated with elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in children with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and healthy children. Findings reported an association of hypercholesterolemia with diverse metabolic repercussions in children and suggested a more complex nature of it than previously believed. Data also indicated a corresponding rise in atherogenic apolipoprotein B (APOB)-containing lipoproteins, lipid fractions and alterations in HDL sub fractions with hypercholesterolemia in FH children, suggesting impaired reverse cholesterol transport in these subjects.
