Composite score of healthy lifestyle factors and risk of hepatocellular carcinoma: Findings from a prospective cohort study
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Dec 23, 2020
Luu HN, Behari J, Wang R, et al. - Among 63,257 Chinese men and women, who are enrolled in an ongoing prospective cohort study (Singapore Chinese Health Study), researchers examined hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk in correlation with a composite score of healthy lifestyle factors, including body mass index, alcohol intake, cigarette smoking, alternative Mediterranean diet, and sleep duration. A significantly lower risk of HCC was observed in persons with higher composite scores representing healthier lifestyles (range 0–8). Overall, findings revealed that a protective impact against HCC development was conferred by healthy lifestyles, specifically in people without hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus infections.
