BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Jun 11, 2020
Liu Y, Yushan M, Liu Z, et al. - This study was attempted to assess the efficacy and complications of bone transport technique applying Ilizarov method in the treatment of bone defect of lower extremity. Researchers performed this study on 282 patients who had undergone bone transport procedures applying Ilizarov method at the institution from January 2007 to June 2017. They further obtained and retrospectively examined patient’s demographic data, complications and clinical outcomes at minimum of 2 years follow-up. They assessed clinical outcomes applying correlation for the Study and Application of the Method of Ilizarov criteria at last clinical visit. This research recruited a total of 243 male and 39 females with a mean age of 40 years (range 18–65 years). It was shown that bone transport was found to be a reliable procedure for reconstruction of bone defects in the femur and tibia. This study's findings indicate that awareness of predictable complications is useful to prevent or early detection of the expected complication which can improve the risk-benefit balance.
