The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery Mar 11, 2021
Spek RWQ, Smeeing DPJ, van den Heuvel L, et al. - A retrospective cohort study was performed to explore the epidemiology and risk factors for complications after surgically treated ankle fractures in geriatric patients. Researchers included those patients who were 65 years or older and had a surgically treated ankle fracture. Between 2012 and 2017, they recorded postoperative complications, demographic-, fracture- and surgical data of 282 patients from two levels 2 trauma centers. The findings revealed that among geriatric patients, the incidence of postoperative complications after surgical treatment of ankle fractures is high and patients should be informed accordingly.
