Complexity analysis of cortical surface detects changes in future Alzheimer's disease converters

Human Brain Mapping Sep 05, 2017

de Miras JR, et al. – This study was designed to elucidate spherical harmonic–based fractal dimension (SHFD), thickness, and local gyrification index (LGI) to evaluate whether they distinguish cortical surface abnormalities toward the conversion to Alzheimer's disease (AD). Researchers demonstrated that spherical harmonic–based fractal dimension may be an optimal complement to thickness loss analysis in monitoring longitudinal changes in preclinical and clinical stages of AD.
