Completion surgery after extracapsular dissection of low-grade parotid gland malignant tumors
Head & Neck Jul 10, 2019
Mantsopoulos K, et al. - In this investigation, researchers contrasted the oncological and functional result between extracapsular dissection and completion surgery on the one hand and sole extracapsular dissection on the other hand in small low-grade malignant parotid tumors. Records of all patients treated with T1-T2 low-grade malignant parotid gland tumors were studied retrospectively, primarily through extracapsular dissection between 2006 and 2015. Forty patients with T1-T2 low-grade parotid malignancies have been identified. After sole extracapsular dissection in the direct postoperative phase, facial nerve function is significantly better, with no long-term differences between groups. Following primary extracapsular dissection, the research exhibited very encouraging preliminary outcomes as the sole surgical therapy for carefully chosen low-stage, low-grade, inferior lesions in high-compliance patients.
