Complement activation predicts adverse pregnancy outcome in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and/or antiphospholipid antibodies
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Jan 31, 2018
Kim MY, et al. - This research was executed in order to examine if the activation of complement early in pregnancy predicted adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) in women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and/or antiphospholipid (aPL) antibodies. It was deduced that increased Bb and sC5b-9 detectable early in pregnancy were strongly predictive of APOs in pregnant patients with SLE and/or aPL. Furthermore, these supported the activation of complement, especially the alternative pathway, as a contributor to APOs.
