Comparison of xerostomia incidence after three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy and contralateral superficial lobe parotid-sparing intensity-modulated radiotherapy for oropharyngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer
Auris Nasus Larynx Feb 09, 2018
Kawamoto T, et al. - The experts sought to compare the incidence of xerostomia in three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) and contralateral superficial lobe parotid-sparing (CSLPS)- intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) for oropharyngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer. They also compared the clinical effectiveness of 3D-CRT and CSLPS-IMRT. In patients receiving CSLPS-IMRT compared with 3D-CRT, the incidence of xerostomia was significantly lower. The clinical efficacy of both treatment strategies did not vary.
