Comparison of videolaryngoscope-guided vs standard digital insertion techniques of the ProSeal laryngeal mask airway: A prospective randomized study
BMC Anesthesiology Jan 08, 2020
Ozgul U, Erdil FA, Erdogan MA, et al. - Researchers focused on the value of the videolaryngoscope-guided insertion technique vs the standard digital technique for the insertion success rate and insertion conditions of the Proseal laryngeal mask airway (PLMA) in this study done on prospective 119 patients (ASA [American Society of Anesthesiologists] I–II, aged 18–65 yr). The participants were randomly classified for PLMA insertion using the videolaryngoscope-guided technique or the standard digital technique. They noted that the use of videolaryngoscope-guided technique vs the standard digital technique provided a higher first-attempt success rate (the primary outcome). Based on the findings, experts concluded that cases of difficult positioning of a PLMA can be assisted by videolaryngoscope-guided insertion technique, and this technique can provide improved PLMA performance in some conditions. In case the digital technique fails, videolaryngoscope-guided technique may afford a useful technique.
