Comparison of trochanteric slide and subtrochanteric shortening osteotomy in the treatment of severe hip dysplasia: Mid-term clinical outcomes of cementless total hip arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Apr 22, 2020
Karaismailoglu B, et al. - This study was intended to correlate clinical outcomes of Crowe type III-IV DDH patients who had undergone total hip arthroplasty with either trochanteric slide osteotomy (TSO) or subtrochanteric shortening osteotomy (SSO). Between 2004-2014, researchers retrospectively examined the patients who underwent cementless total hip arthroplasty with femoral shortening osteotomy due to Crowe type III/IV DDH and completed at least 5-years of follow-up. They compared the clinical outcome measures and complication rates in terms of osteotomy type. TSO and SSO group consisted of of 34 patients (43 hips) and and 40 patients (51 hips) respectively. At mid-term follow-up, TSO and SSO serve similar clinical outcomes in the management of Crowe III-IV DDH by cementless total hip arthroplasty. Both procedures can be applied safely depending on the surgeon’s preference.
