Comparison of treatment for low-risk GTN with standard 8-day MTX/FA regimen vs modified MTX/FA regimen without chemotherapy on the weekend
Gynecologic Oncology Mar 10, 2020
Braga A, de Souza Hartung Araújo C, Mora PAR, et al. - Outcomes of patients with low-risk gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) treated with standard 8-day methotrexate/folinic acid (MTX/FA) vs modified regimen were compared in this retrospective cohort study. Among 937 patients with low-risk GTN who were followed at Rio de Janeiro Federal University, from January 1990 to December 2017, treatment with standard MTX/FA was provided to 538 patients and modified regimen was provided to 98 patients. Compromised oncologic outcomes seemed not evident in low-risk GTN when treated with modified 8-day MTX/FA. No increase in chemoresistance, number of chemotherapy cycles to achieve remission or toxicity seemed evident in correlation with modified 8-day MTX/FA. The modified 8-day MTX/FA seems to be an acceptable alternative when there is no option for treatment on weekends.
