Comparison of thrombocyte count between pediatric patients with migraine or tension-type headache: A retrospective cohort study
Journal of Child Neurology Jul 24, 2019
Benedick A, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study with 299 patients (mean age 12.2 ± 3.4 years), researchers compared thrombocyte count among pediatric migraine vs tension-type headache patients and assessed the association of thrombocyte count with parameters of headache. Data were gathered from medical files on thrombocyte counts and compared by parametric and non-parametric statistical tests between the groups. A significantly lower mean number of thrombocytes was found in the migraine group vs the tension-type headache group. A significant negative correlation between the thrombocyte count and the duration of headache attacks in hours was seen among migraine patients. In pediatric headache clinic patients with migraine, the low relative thrombocyte count and its negative correlation with migraine duration infer that migraine may be linked with different underlying pathogenesis from tension-type headache.
