Comparison of the prognosis of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy treatment with surgery alone in esophageal carcinoma: A meta-analysis
OncoTargets and Therapy Jun 21, 2018
Ma HF, et al. - Researchers analyzed data from trials that compared the efficacy of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) with surgery alone (SA) in resectable esophageal carcinoma. For this analysis, odds ratios (ORs) were major outcomes measures. The principal measure of effects were the ORs with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals. Using Revman 5.3 software, they analyzed the combined pooled ORs using fixed- or random-effects models according to the heterogeneity. Findings revealed significantly improved progression-free survival and overall survival (OS) in patients with esophageal cancer who received CRT compared with those treated with SA. Relative to the control group, no significant improvement on reference rate and metastasis rate was noted in the adjuvant chemotherapy group.
