Comparison of the postoperative analgesic efficacies of intravenous acetaminophen and fascia iliaca compartment block in hip fracture surgery: A randomised controlled trial
Injury Nov 13, 2019
Yamamoto N, Sakura S, Noda T, et al. - Researchers examined the efficacy of the fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB) vs intravenous acetaminophen in improving postoperative pain on movement in hip fracture patients. They conducted a randomized, controlled, parallel trial assigning patients to either the intravenous acetaminophen or the ultrasound-guided FICB group. Outcomes revealed that compared with intravenous acetaminophen, FICB results in improved postoperative pain on movement without raising the complication rate. However, the total number of rescue analgesics required or the time to first standing did not reduce in correlation to using FICB.
