Comparison of the functional success of fat myringoplasty and perifascial areolar tympanoplasty in transcanal endoscopic ear surgery
ENT Journal Sep 11, 2020
Ko CA, Yang CH, Wu CN, et al. - In patients who underwent transcanal endoscopic ear surgery (TEES), researchers sought to compare the functional outcomes of fat myringoplasty and areolar tympanoplasty through a small postauricular incision. Between April 2016 and May 2019, patients who had myringoplasty or type I tympanoplasty using TEES in the Department of Otolaryngology were included. A total of 63 patients received fat tissue grafts (group A) and 77 received areolar tissue grafts (group B). According to findings, transcanal endoscopic ear surgery increases fat myringoplasty's usefulness in repairing perforations > 35% of the eardrum surface. For this simple and rapid technique, which yields excellent results, postauricular fatty and areolar tissues are suited.
