Comparison of the efficacy of two different local anesthetics in inferior turbinate reduction
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Sep 08, 2020
Erol O, et al. - The local anesthetic efficacy of EMLA cream vs lidocaine injection used in the radiofrequency reduction of the inferior turbinate was determined. Among 124 assessed patients with inferior turbinate hypertrophy who underwent turbinate reduction under local anesthesia, a lower level of discomfort, choking sensation and difficulty swallowing was reported by the EMLA cream patients vs the lidocaine patients, while the two groups did not differ substantially in pain. Based on these findings, researchers suggest EMLA cream to be an effective alternative to lidocaine injection during inferior turbinate reduction procedures.
