Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Jul 01, 2020
Moon YE, Kim SH, Seok H, et al. - A double-blind randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted to compare the effects of a vapocoolant spray and a eutectic mixture of local anesthetics (EMLA) cream on reducing pain during intra-articular (IA) injection of the shoulder. Researchers randomly assigned 63 individuals who had undergone IA injection of the shoulder joint into the spray group, EMLA group, or placebo group. They administered a 100-mm visual analog scale (VAS) for injection pain and 5-point Likert scales for participant satisfaction and preference for repeated use immediately after IA injection. It was reported that during IA injection of the shoulder, vapocoolant spray was effective in reducing pain.
