Comparison of the effects of the temperature of intratympanic dexamethasone injections on vertigo
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Sep 05, 2019
Ata N, et al. - In this investigation, researchers compared whether vertigo improved in patients when the dexamethasone used in the intratympanic (IT) injection was applied at body temperature or at room temperature. Participants in the study were 54 patients who had undergone intratympanic treatment due to sudden hearing loss and tinnitus. Using the visual analogue scale and the four-point categorical rating scale, study participants were asked to report vertigo they felt immediately, and at 15 min after the injection. According to the findings, the decline in vertigo due to IT was noted within minutes. Temporal vertigo due to injection is smaller when the IT drugs are administered at body temperature than when administered at room temperature.
