Comparison of the effect of sevoflurane or propofol anesthesia on the regional cerebral oxygen saturation in patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy: A prospective, randomized controlled study
BMC Anesthesiology Aug 22, 2019
Park S, Yook K, Yoo KY, et al. - Researchers examined how sevoflurane vs propofol influence the regional cerebral oxygen saturation (SrO2) of patients undergoing cerebral endarterectomy (CEA). they randomly assigned 74 patients who were undergoing CEA to the sevoflurane or propofol group. Based on carotid artery clamping, the experiment was preceded in 2 stages: the first stage was from induction of anesthesia to immediately before clamping of the carotid artery, and the second stage was until the end of the operation after clamping of the carotid artery. Outcomes revealed the achievement of comparable outcomes with propofol-remifentanil anesthesia and sevoflurane-remifentanil anesthesia with respect to preserving the SrO2 in patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy.
