Comparison of suture-button vs syndesmotic screw in the treatment of distal tibiofibular syndesmosis injury: A meta -analysis
The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery Sep 27, 2020
Xu K, Zhang J, Zhang P, et al. - A meta-analysis was performed to figure out if SB fixation was superior to traditionally screw fixation. Researchers distinguished 12vclinical studies including a total of 320 patients in the suture-button (SB) group and 334 patients in the syndesmotic screw (SS) group. No significant difference was found in postoperative radiological measurements, and there was no sufficient evidence to support the improved clinical outcomes in comparison with the SS fixation group. Nevertheless, the results of this study indicate that the SB technique could improve functional outcomes, decrease the rate of implant removal, implant failure, local irritation, and malreduction without increasing the risk of other complications. Thus, SB method should be proposed in the treatment of syndesmosis injuries.
