Comparison of survival outcomes between minimally invasive surgery and conventional open surgery for radical hysterectomy as primary treatment in patients with stage IB1–IIA2 cervical cancer
Gynecologic Oncology Jan 17, 2019
Kim SI, et al. - Researchers retrospectively analyzed stage IB1-IIA2 cervical cancer (CC) patients who underwent either laparoscopic or open Type C radical hysterectomy (RH) between 2000 and 2018 to determine the survival outcome of RH by laparoscopic surgery in early-stage cervical cancer. The open surgery and minimally invasive surgery (MIS) groups had 435 and 158 patients, respectively. Outcomes revealed higher recurrence rates in relation to MIS when compared to open RH. However, in patients with stage IB1 and cervical mass size ≤2 cm on pre-operative MRI, MIS RH was not identified to be a poor prognostic factor.
