Comparison of surgical treatments for Zenker diverticulum: A systematic review and network meta-analysis
JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Feb 16, 2021
Bhatt NK, Mendoza J, Kallogjeri D, et al. - As patients with Zenker diverticulum (ZD) can exhibit return or persistence of symptoms after surgery, researchers sought to compare 3 common surgical techniques—endoscopic laser-assisted diverticulotomy, endoscopic stapler-assisted diverticulotomy, and transcervical diverticulectomy with cricopharyngeal myotomy— for ZD via performing this first systematic review and network meta-analysis on this topic. Findings revealed lowest incidence of persistent or recurrent symptoms in correlation with open diverticulectomy with cricopharyngeal myotomy vs endoscopic stapler–assisted and CO 2 laser diverticulotomy. The primary outcome measure did not differ significantly when comparing the two endoscopic techniques.
