Comparison of surgical techniques for benign parotid tumors: A multicentre retrospective study
International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Dec 04, 2018
Zheng CY, et al. - Three surgical techniques used for the treatment of patients with benign parotid tumors [superficial parotidectomy (SP; group 1), partial superficial parotidectomy (PSP; group 2), and ultrasonic scalpel-assisted minimal extracapsular dissection (US-MECD; group 3)] were compared in terms of their outcomes. The conventional surgical technique was utilized for groups 1 and 2, while an ultrasonic scalpel was used for performing surgery in group 3. They analyzed a total of 281 patients treated during 2012–2016: 98 in group 1, 91 in group 2, and 92 in group 3. As per outcomes, US-MECD had similar effectiveness with fewer side effects when compared with SP and PSP.
