Comparison of statins for secondary prevention in patients with ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack: A systematic review and network meta-analysis
BMC Medicine Mar 31, 2019
Tramacere I, et al. - Researchers summarized the evidence of statin use in secondary prevention for ischemic stroke patients by comparing the benefits and harms of different statins. For this purpose, they analyzed data from nine trials have been identified (n=10,741 patients). The median follow-up period was 2.5 years. Evidence strongly suggested that a reduction in the absolute risk of ischemic strokes and cardiovascular events was linked to statins. There were modest differences in effects between statins, signaling potential therapeutic equivalence.
