Comparison of stand-alone lateral lumbar interbody fusion vs open laminectomy and posterolateral instrumented fusion in the treatment of adjacent segment disease following previous lumbar fusion surgery
Spine Dec 15, 2019
Louie PK, Haws BE, Khan JM, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study of 47 consecutive people who underwent lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) or posterolateral fusion (PLF) for symptomatic adjacent segment disease (ASD) between January 2007 and August 2016 following the failure of conservative management were studied in order to contrast clinical and radiographic outcomes of people who underwent stand-alone LLIF to those who underwent PLF for symptomatic ASD. However, LLIF may give less perioperative morbidity and shorter length of hospitalization, to restore radiographic alignment and provide successful clinical outcomes, both methods were safe and efficient approaches in people with adjacent segment degeneration after previous lumbar fusion surgery.
