Comparison of rosuvastatin vs atorvastatin for coronary plaque stabilization
The American Journal of Cardiology May 01, 2019
Thondapu V, et al. - Researchers used serial multimodality intracoronary imaging to determine coronary plaque response to therapy with various statins that provoke similar lipid lowering. Participants included patients with de novo coronary artery disease needing intervention. They randomized the participants to rosuvastatin 10mg or atorvastatin 20mg daily. At baseline, 6 months, and 12 months, they performed optical coherence tomography and intravascular ultrasound. Comparable reductions in lipid profiles were caused by both statins, but more rapid and robust plaque stabilization and regression of plaque volume was seen in the rosuvastatin group vs the atorvastatin group.
