Comparison of repeat sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in case of weight loss failure after sleeve gastrectomy
Obesity Surgery Aug 11, 2019
Antonopulos C, et al. - The short- and medium-term outcomes of repeat sleeve gastrectomy (re-SG) vs RYGB (Roux-en-Y gastric bypass) for the failure of primary SG were compared. From January 2010 to December 2017, researchers included 61 patients undergoing re-SG and 83 patients undergoing RYGB after SG. Patients with insufficient excess weight loss (EWL ≤ 50%) or weight regain were offered revisional surgery. The mean interval between SG and re-SG vs between SG and RYGB was 41.5 vs 43.2 months, respectively. Outcomes support the feasibility of Re-SG and RYGB as revisional surgery for SG with agreeable outcomes and comparable results on weight loss on the first postoperative year.
