Wu G, et al. – This research entailed the illustration of the efficacy of an algorithm based on the biomarker procalcitonin (PCT). The intent was to reduce antibiotic exposure in pediatric patients with lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI). Based on the results, it was inferred that PCT guidance of antibiotic treatment in children and adolescents with LRTI reduced the duration of antibiotic exposure and antibiotic prescribing rates. However, it did not present any effect on the adverse effect rate and length of hospital stay.
