Comparison of pregabalin with gabapentin as preemptive analgesic in lumbar spine surgery
Journal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology Jul 22, 2018
Routray SS, et al. - Experts compared the pregabalin and gabapentin as a pre-emptive analgesic in elective lumbar spine surgeries. Two capsules of gabapentin 300 mg each, two capsules of pregabalin 150 mg each, and two multivitamin capsules were received by group G, group PG, and group P, respectively, with a sip of water 1 hour before the expected time of induction of anesthesia. Nonetheless, prolonged postoperative analgesia was produced by both the study drugs vs placebo and a better analgesic profile was demonstrated by pregabalin compared to gabapentin. In PG group, time for the requirement of the first dose of rescue analgesic was 180.12 min and it was 104.16 min in G group, which was statistically significant.
