Comparison of postoperative analgesic effect of caudal bupivacaine with and without ketamine in pediatric subumbilical surgeries
Journal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology Oct 16, 2018
Aliena SP, et al. - In children undergoing subumbilical surgeries, researchers compared the postoperative analgesic impact of bupivacaine with vs without ketamine when administered caudally. Two groups (B and BK) with a total of 58 American Society of Anesthesiologists grades I and II children of either gender undergoing subumbilical surgeries were formed. A standardized anesthetic protocol was used, and 0.75 ml/kg 0.25% bupivacaine was administered to Group B and 0.75 ml/kg 0.25% bupivacaine plus ketamine 0.5 mg/kg to Group BK. Findings revealed a significant prolongation of postoperative analgesia in relation to use of ketamine as an adjuvant to bupivacaine in caudal block.
