Comparison of positive predictive values of categorization of suspicious calcifications using the 4th and 5th editions of BI-RADS
American Journal of Roentgenology May 12, 2019
Park GE, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers assessed changes in the positive predictive value (PPV) of categorization of suspicious calcification for malignancy with the 4th vs the 5th edition of BI-RADS. From January 2012 to June 2016, a total of 469 cases from 444 women with pathologically confirmed suspicious calcifications were enlisted. Categorization PPVs using the 5th edition matched the category evaluation of BI-RADS better than categorization using the 4th edition. The authors concluded that categorization using both morphology and distribution according to the 5th edition of BI-RADS was helpful in stratifying the risk levels of suspicious calcification areas.
