Comparison of pharmacological treatment alone vs treatment combined with implantable cardioverter defibrillator therapy in patients older than 75 years
ESC Heart Failure Jun 29, 2018
Cortes M, et al. - Researchers performed this retrospective, non-randomized study with a historical cohort from a single center to determine the role of implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) as a treatment option relative to medical therapy in patients older than 75 years. They examined patients with left ventricular ejection fraction ≤ 35%, with a Class I or IIa recommendation for ICD implantation between January 2008 and July 2014. They performed propensity-score matching to avoid potential confounding factors. Finding demonstrated no benefit of ICD in patients older than 75 years when compared with medical therapy.
