Comparison of perinatal outcomes for all modes of second stage delivery in obstetric theatres: A retrospective observational study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Dec 03, 2020
Gurney L, Al Wattar BH, Sher A, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective cohort study with the aim to compare rates of vaginal delivery and adverse outcomes of instrumental delivery trials in obstetric theatre vs primary emergency full dilation caesarean section. Using clinical records, they obtained data of consecutive cases during 2014 until 2018. They analyzed a total of 971 deliveries: ventouse delivery was significantly less likely to achieve vaginal delivery compared with Keilland’s forceps delivery. Findings overall support that attempting instrumental delivery in delivery suite theatre is reasonable and safe, as an alternative to primary emergency full dilation caesarean section. In this study, ventouse delivery performed poorly relative to other modes of instrumental delivery.
