Comparison of paravertebral block by anatomic landmark technique to ultrasound-guided paravertebral block for breast surgery anesthesia: A randomized controlled trial
Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Apr 27, 2018
Patnaik R, et al. - Researhers compared anatomical landmark technique (ALT) to the ultrasound-guided (USG) paravertebral block (PVB) block for providing breast surgery anesthesia. Additionally, comparison of perioperative analgesia and complications was carried out. Study participants included females, aged 18 to 65 years, American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I or II, undergoing elective unilateral breast surgery and randomized to the ALT group or USG group. In the USG group vs the ALT group, more patients had a successful block. Overall, better anesthesia and perioperative analgesia was achieved with ultrasound-guided PVB vs the landmark technique for breast surgery.
