Ogunbayo GO, et al. – This study compared outcomes in patients having acute myocardial infarction (AMI) with versus without sickle cell anemia (SCA). In SCA patients, MI occurrence was reported at a relatively early age and no typical traditional risk factors for acute coronary syndrome were detected. In addition, in age gender and race–matched controls, mortality in these patients was found to be significantly higher.
