Comparison of outcomes after open surgical and endovascular lower extremity revascularisation among end stage renal disease patients on dialysis
Journal of Vascular Surgery Feb 25, 2019
Yuo TH, et al. - The outcomes of endovascular revascularization (ER) and open surgical revascularization (OSR) in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients treated for claudication or critical limb ischemia (CLI) were characterized using the United States Renal Data System. OSR and ER (20.3% OSR, 79.7% ER) were performed on a total of 20,347 patients; 80.8% of ER and 88.4% of OSR were performed for CLI. This retrospective analysis suggests high mortality and amputation rates following lower extremity revascularization among ESRD patients. OSR led to higher mortality when compared with ER. OSR had better 30-day limb salvage but similar long-term outcomes.
